A Modern Richmond Wedding at Common House

Downtown Richmond has a certain energy — historic bones, a creative edge, a city that takes itself seriously without being stuffy about it. Common House fits right in. And for a black-tie wedding that actually had a personality? It was

the perfect call.

RSG Weddings & Events had the honor of coordinating this incredible Richmond celebration, and from the getting-ready morning at Quirk Hotel all the way through last call at Common House, this day delivered at every single turn.

Why Common House Is Perfect for a Richmond Wedding

Common House sits in the heart of downtown Richmond and does not look like a typical wedding venue, which is exactly the point. Exposed brick walls, warm industrial lighting, layered interior spaces, and a covered outdoor patio that somehow manages to feel both refined and relaxed at the same time. The kind of place that photographs beautifully without trying.

The ceremony took place on the outdoor patio at 5 PM — with exposed brick as the backdrop, soft greenery flanking the aisle, and a guest list that filled every seat. After the ceremony, guests moved upstairs to the second floor for the cocktail hour before the reception space opened up below. The venue's flow did much of the work on its own; guests moved through multiple spaces throughout the evening, keeping the energy moving in all the right ways.

Design Details That Elevated the Experience

The morning started at Quirk Hotel, with hair and makeup beginning at 10 AM for the bridal party, while the groom and groomsmen got ready on the other side of the building. The bridal details at Quirk were stunning. Fashion-forward, clean, editorial. The kind of getting-ready photos that set the whole tone before you even get to the venue.

Inside the reception, the design hit that sweet spot between contemporary and warm. Candlelight, lounge-inspired seating areas, a custom neon sign glowing against the brick — modern without feeling cold. The tablescape was layered and intentional, without losing the space's relaxed energy.

And then there were the guest experiences, which is where this wedding really set itself apart. A roaming dinner buffet that kept guests moving and mingling. A live painter working through the reception. A late-night cigar bar that opened at 7 PM. A photo booth running from cocktail hour through the end of the night. These aren't just fun additions; they're the difference between a wedding people attend and a wedding people talk about for years.

The live painter, especially watching a piece come to life in real time during the reception, is something guests genuinely remember. It's a keepsake for the couple and a conversation piece for everyone else in the room.

The Vendor Team

This day had a lot of moving pieces — two getting-ready locations, multiple event spaces, layered guest experiences running simultaneously. It takes a great team to make that feel effortless, and this one absolutely delivered.

Wedding Coordination | RSG Weddings & Events | @rsgweddings.events

The RSG team swung by Quirk Hotel at 1 PM before heading to Common House to manage the full day from there. Two locations, a detailed timeline, multiple vendor arrivals, reception transitions, and a 10:30 PM wrap — all handled without a hitch.

Venue & Catering | Common House RVA | @commonhouserva

Common House handled both the venue and catering for this wedding, which made the day that much smoother. The covered outdoor patio ceremony space, the second floor cocktail hour, the reception room, the roaming dinner buffet — all of it under one beautifully run roof.

Getting Ready Venue | Quirk Hotel Richmond | @quirkhotelrva

Quirk Hotel gave the getting- ready morning its editorial edge. The hotel's design-forward aesthetic translated into some of the most beautiful bridal detail shots of the day — a perfect complement to the couple's overall vision.

Photography | Wild Heart | @wildheartco

Wild Heart arrived at Quirk Hotel at 1PM and documented the full day through 9PM — bridal details, getting ready, the outdoor ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, dancing, all of it. The photography has a genuine editorial quality that matched this wedding's vibe perfectly.

Entertainment | Zandi Entertainment | @zandientertainment | @deejayollie

Zandi Entertainment set up at Common House at 2PM and ran the music for the entire reception — grand entrance, parent dances, first dance, open dancing, all the way through last call at 10PM. The dance floor was packed and stayed that way.

Live Painter | Brooke Benham | @brookebenham_art

Brooke Benham was on site from 10AM, painting through the ceremony and reception to create a piece that captured the full energy of the day. Watching a live painter work during a reception is one of those things that guests can't look away from — and the finished piece is something the couple gets to keep forever.

Photo Booth | Richmond Photobooth | @richmondphotobooth

Richmond Photobooth arrived at noon, was fully set up and running by the time cocktail hour ended, and kept guests entertained through the rest of the reception. Modern, open-air, and always a crowd favorite.

Hair & Makeup | Radiant Reflection | @radiantreflection_

The Radiant Reflection team started at Quirk Hotel at 10 AM and had the full bridal party polished and ready by 1 PM. Effortless, lasting, and exactly right for the elevated aesthetic of this wedding.

Cigar Bar | Cortez Cigars | @cortezcigars

Cortez Cigars arrived at 6 PM and set up as the reception got going — the cigar bar ran from 7 PM through 9 PM and was exactly the kind of unexpected touch guests loved. A late-night cigar during a black-tie reception? Yes, always.

Officiant | All Things Marriage RVA | @allthingsmarriagerva

A beautiful ceremony on the outdoor patio, and the words to match.

Final Thoughts

Common House is one of those venues that makes the job feel easy; it has so much personality on its own that the design just builds from there. Add a team this good and a couple with this much vision, and you get a wedding that genuinely had it all.

If you're dreaming of a Richmond wedding that feels elevated, modern, and completely your own, RSG Weddings & Events would love to help make it happen.
